According to the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom, warts are a common skin condition that most people will have at some point in their life. They are small lumps that appear on the skin. Usually, they are harmless and will disappear on their own eventually, although they may remain on the skin for months or years.
Warts can appear on the skin individually or in clumps. They are firm and raised, rough, and round or oval-shaped. They measure from less than 1 millimeter to more than 1 centimeter in diameter.
A variation of warts that appear only on the soles of the feet is called verrucas. They have the same physical characteristics as warts, except they are often flat rather than raised. Verrucas are white with a black dot in the middle.
Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes an excessive amount of keratin to develop in the skin. This results to the lumping of the skin that develops into warts. HPV can be transmitted sexually or orally. HPV can cause serious health conditions such as oropharyngeal cancer, which is cancer found in the base of the tongue and tonsils.
However, the Health & Human Services (HHS) in the United States says that only 1% of people in the country have the kind of oral HPV that causes oropharyngeal cancer. Of this percentage, only 9,000 people have been diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer. For most cases, HPV is not harmful. It can cause sexually transmitted infections (STI) and warts that disappear eventually.
There’s no sure way to prevent warts and verrucas, but there are certain steps that you can take to reduce the risk. Here are some prevention tips from the NHS.

If the above essential oils and homemade remedies don’t work, maybe it’s time to try other forms of treatments. In this section, we’ll discuss common treatments suggested by doctors, a homemade apple cider vinegar wart treatment recipe that you can DIY, and cyrotherapy.
There are different treatments and pharmaceutical creams that are recommended by doctors for warts and verrucas. Some of the most common treatments suggested by doctors include retinoid cream, cantharidin, or imiquimod.
Chemical peels using glycolic acid, tretinoin or salicylic acid (an ingredient found mostly in acne treatments) may also be prescribed. Your doctor may also try electrosurgery or laser surgery to remove your warts if non-surgical methods don’t work.
Other treatments performed by doctors include bleomycin injection, which is not a common treatment method because it is painful, and immunotherapy, which improves the immune system so it can fight HPV.
Note, however, that you shouldn’t try any of these medications by yourself. You should consult a doctor before applying any chemicals and/or pharmaceutical creams onto your affected skin. If done incorrectly, these products can do more damage and further irritate your infection.
There are two ways to apply apple cider vinegar onto your affected skin. You can make an apple cider vinegar soak or you can dab it directly onto the infection.
Apple Cider Vinegar Soak

Soak a clean cotton pad in apple cider vinegar, and then apply it to the affected area. Using an adhesive bandage, cover the cotton pad and leave it on the skin for twenty-four hours. Make sure that you replace the cotton pad daily. Do this treatment for ten to fourteen days or until the wart falls off.
Cyrotherapy involves standing in a cylindrical tank for a few minutes while your body is blasted with frigid air. Cyrotherapy is believed to help weight loss. However, not many people know that cyrotherapy can also cure warts. The frigid air, which is colder than the temperature in the South Pole, destroys warts.
Cyrotherapy for wart treatment is done differently than the average cylindrical tank. A doctor will directly apply liquid nitrogen onto the affected area for a minute.
Because this treatment can be painful, a local anesthetic may be used. One to four treatments may be required by the doctor, with one to three weeks in between each cyrotherapy session.
Essential oils can help cure warts and verrucas, but it is still best to consult a doctor. If the infection persists, it’s time to schedule a check-up. Don’t worry if our essential oil treatments don’t work for you.
You can still use the essential oils you purchased for their wide array of other uses. Nonetheless, essential oils have been proven effective for treating warts and verrucas, so your skin will most likely be wart-free after trying the methods we have included above.
