What Are Essential Oils?

Essential OilsI’m pretty sure you already have an idea on what it is and what it is for. But I’ll go ahead and say it once more, essential oils have the unique fragrance characteristics that of a plant or from whatever substance it originally came from.

The process of making these are commonly by extracting the plants in question. It’s obtained by the process of distillation.

But to put it simply, everyone has already experienced the fragrance of an essential oil. Looking back on how it’s being made, these original source could be found almost instantly.

I’m pretty sure you’ve already held a rose in your hand. Boys, you know what I’m talking about, scoring them points – unless you don’t have points to score in the first place, then I’m sorry.

But yes, the rose has its own characteristics that can be used for aromatherapy. This helps you relax for a moment in time, and eases your mind to focus.

Although, I don’t want you think that it’s all that it can do. Because it can do so much more! Its potential is limitless!

Maybe I’m exaggerating a bit. It’s true though, it can be used for a lot of things – treating injuries, deionizer, and many more. But that’s for another topic.

Of course, there’s something I want to add. I don’t want you to think that their fragrance are all perfect; it’s definitely not. There are some aromas that’s too strong for my liking. Sometimes it’s too bitter.

We’ll discuss more on the details later. Overall, I can say they’re pretty much handy to have around. And you’ll see why…

Knowing Its Qualities

Essential oils have this thing you call volatile aromatic compounds – I always find the name elegant, don’t you think so? These compounds are found from commonly found in nature.

They are seeds, bark, stems, roots, buds, or basically plant parts. Oils have distinctive characteristics which has a role in promoting plant pollination. Its scent is beautifully justified by its intrinsic uniqueness.

Using them safely

Honestly, I love essential oils as much as anyone would. But there are things you need to be cautious about. As you already know, there are different kinds of essential oils intended for different reasons.

But on how to use them safely is a different matter.

Well, I’m pretty sure you already know your stuff around oils. But for those who aren’t informed as much, let’s take a breather and discuss it further.

As outrageous as this may seem, never drink essential oils. It’s an obvious duh, I know. But hear me out.

There’s this common misunderstanding that these are safe and organic making it safe to drink. No, guys and gals, please don’t. If I’m going to tell the truth here, I was once – still am – curious on how it tastes like.

Hey, they smell fantastic! Who wouldn’t get curious? (Except probably for most of the normal-population) but I guess you get the picture.

As a matter of fact, this is such a normal concern, that there are books written about it –people getting intoxicated by drinking essential oils!

In Haddad and Winchester’s Clinical management of Poisoning and Drug Overdose, 4th ed., Chapter 101, “Essential Oils”, it discussed how severe the matter actually is. There have been recorded deaths on this subject, too.

In the book, it’s been stated that there’s an adult who died because of an essential oil overdose – it was only 4mL eucalyptus oil!

On my end, I’m quite curious as to why he did that. Unfortunately, it didn’t say. Eh, I guess it’s true: Curiosity did kill the cat.

However, the essential oil horror story doesn’t end there. Here’s another case, an 8-month old baby apparently drank a 30mL essential oil that led to the baby having seizures and death.

Okay, don’t expect an explanation as to why these brutal scenarios happened. I don’t know the answer. If you love kids, I know this is a hard pill to swallow – and no, I don’t know who the parents of the baby are.

But what I do know, these aren’t assumptions.  These are real information that’s been documented by actual oil facilities.

There’s actually more cases like these! It does not immediately promote death. In the same study, there was a consumption of Cinnamon Oil at 2.5mL, and the results aren’t beautiful.

This has caused rectal burning and dizziness in a 7-year old. He also experienced gastrointestinal symptoms and lethargy.

American Association of Poison Control Centers published a report that in the year 2010, there was a recorded 10,000 cases of essential oil poisoning. And a whopping 80% of that are kids 5 years old and below.

By now, you’re probably getting where I’m going – don’t let kids drink this. Its aroma might relieve stress, but drinking it internally, well, might cause stress.

Essential Oils For ADHD

Essential Oils For ADHDWhen used properly, oils are amazing! If you have kids – or know kids – who have ADHD, then you can let the wonders of essential oils work for you.

You should teach their parents on how to use them first though. And I want to put a disclaimer, they don’t cure ADHD. They only help in keeping people who suffer from ADHD stay calm allowing focus to enter in to their lives.

There are parents who are searching for this online to check if there’s a way to improve their kid’s focus; this might just be the answer.

However, I still advice parents to proceed with caution. There hasn’t been an official research on this.

Here are some things that Essential oil is able to do:

  • soothes
  • comforts
  • calms
  • reduces anxiety
  • quiets
  • sedates
  • calms the emotions
  • focuses the mind
  • supports the immune system
  • appeases the nervous system

Improves Your Brain and Emotional Health

Improves Your Brain and Emotional HealthLet’s get emotionally stable, people! Oils have been used for improving one’s health for a very long time.

As a matter of fact, there are specific oils that have been used in South Asia, Southeast Asia and West Africa. In these places, they are used as traditional medicine for thousands of years back.

Specific oils can be used for taking care of heat strokes, that’s why it’s popular in tropical countries.

Also, there are oils which can be used for treating joint disorders and skin problems. If tired, you’re able to use oils to make you feel alive and kicking again – hooray for instant energy boosters!

Intently, this has also been used at work to allow you to focus more. It’s quite cool to the body, really. So when you’re in a chaotic situation, this allows you to calm down.

It basically functions to get rid of the feeling of anxiety and nervousness. I’d like to add that it can also increase libido.

Lastly, it’s a useful thing that’s able to treat insomnia without having to be exposed in drugs.

In the long run, you’re able to focus more on the things that really matters.

This is not for everyone

If it doesn’t work for you, then it’s not because there’s something wrong with how your body works. But it simply means that it just isn’t for you.  That’s just it.

Aromatherapy isn’t for everyone, just like with other therapies that might not work for you either. But mostly, it isn’t because it doesn’t work.

It’s because the choice or choices of oil/s being used to blend is not appropriate. This has become an issue for quite some time, and I want to address it.

In fact, if people would sit down and do some research on getting the proper one, then it would resolve the issue of essentials oil not working for them.

What to do?

Get your blends right! As much as possible, don’t choose oils just because you fancy their package or fragrance. Just like with everything else in this world, oils have different purposes. And they’re made in different procedures.

The reason why people get it wrong is because lack of knowledge and experience. But of course, that’s why I’m here to fix that.

You see, it dates back from the time where our ancestors lived the land. In those years, we’ve created a unique relationship with its aroma.

Plants are already amazing as it is, but finding the right one, will significantly increase its potential!

But don’t worry; I’ve got the best essential oils for focus right here.

Conclusion

Well, there you have it. The best essential oils for improvement of focus and concentration. As wonderful as they may seem, you still need to find the one that suits you and benefits you.

They have other uses too, aside from just helping you focus and relieving stress, that’s why I want you to find the best essential oil for you as they have other usages as well.

Make sure that whatever comes with the oil is beneficial to you, so research is required. I’ve been using Rosemary for quite some time and its effects are wonderful – definitely the oil for my taste.

Before purchasing a specific oil, I want you to check out its blends and what it is known for, but if you’re just choosing an oil that can improve your focus in general, then you may choose any of these items listed above.

I know that it’s confusing as there are a number of products listed, but it would be best for you to research on the reviews of each one and check them out on the internet.

Well, I know you’re eager to learn about them, that’s why I have something else that may help you with your concern. You may see this awesome video about concentration and focus.
